so what do we do in the off season? i can't stand baseball (boring) and the NHL playoffs won't be on for much longer. i've never understood the draw for basketball. football isn't until august (go seahawks!). I'm going to miss going to monsters games.

NHL playoffs go until mid June, then the draft right after that, and July 1st starts free agency. So the only boring month is probably August, because training camp will start in September
The sad thing is, I am a huge baseball fan. HUGE. But then, I went to my first Monsters game in December and became addicted. Now baseball doesn't interest me as much! I'm waiting for Travis Hafner to drop his batting gloves and punch out a few people! The excitement of a hockey game is amazing and has made the Indians' season look boring. While I will still root for the Tribe, (they are my team!) I will DEFINITELY miss seeing the Monsters. I'm counting down the days until September!
Yes, the monsters are a hockey team. But they are just a joke like most minor league sports teams. Just look around the Q how many people actually care about the game of hockey like you and I do, and how many people are just there to do something.
Just follow a team in the NHL playoffs. I have been a Penguins fan for 20 years. So I am worried that the Monsters are gone for a few months? No, because the NHL playoffs will be here for a good while. And it just started. This is awesome. (I wish we had an NHL team :/)
it would be nice if we did but unfortunately it prolly will never happen, i think the only way we will ever get an nhl team here is if a team is looking to relocate but even that is a long stretch. minor league sports may be a joke but i love the monsters and don't care that they are just a minor league team. hockey is hockey, i would love this or any team of any league that came to cleveland.
Just look around the Q how many people actually care about the game of hockey like you and I do, and how many people are just there to do something.
YEAH BUT.... It's those buying tickets and attending the game that will allow us who actually enjoy the game to enjoy it from the Q...

Yes, you all are right. Hockey is awesome no matter what. I'm just jealous. But sometimes theres no point the games when the players play for the the name on the back and not the logo on the front. They just want to show off there personal skills to make the big league club.
that is what the minor league is for, to get to the next level (nhl) and possibly stay there. i dont think the players only play not caring for what team they play for, if they only played for themselves we wouldnt have half of our wins, so i think you're wrong, yes they want to impress the avalanche who wouldn't but i still think that they put their pride in wherever they play, case in point darren mccarty playing in the ihl for 400.00 a game, thats right 400.00 now look where he is playing with his old club (redwings) and in the playoffs. i am pretty sure he was just happy to be back playing hockey and not really caring where it was.
Well the parent club doesn't just look at the player's stats and bring them up. They talk to the coach and get recommendations to help them decide. If the coach doesn't think you're a good team player, or not acting consistent or professional, he might recommend someone else to go up.
In addition, the coach can bust a guy down to the Chiefs, or bench them for lack of effort. In some ways it's better than watching an NHL player with a big contract just passing time because he'll be retiring at the end of it. The guys in the AHL want to play and they need everything working for them to make that move up to the NHL.
The other thing to keep in mind is that Gilbert pays the Avs for the team to play in Cleveland. If the team doesn't perform, he can get a different team to play here that will. The Q staff want play-off money. They want a winning team. This isn't the Gunds who had no real interest in filling seats. This is about money for Gilbert and Quicken Loans Arena and now that they've proven they can fill seats, the Avs need to step up the level of play on the ice. Otherwise we could have another affiliation in future years. And the Avs certainly don't want that, with many AHL franchises having ownership and financial difficulties (Peoria, Rochester) it's a great deal for them to have a rich partner, a great facility, in a town that loves hockey.
I believe we'll see a marked improvement in the team next year. If we don't, it's likely the Quicken Staff will begin soliciting other NHL teams for a possible replacement affiliation. Nobody wants that, so I think the pressure to improve will be there.
I expect we'll see more NHL players down with the Monsters for conditioning next year. The reason we didn't get much of that (I think once?) this year was due to the high number of injuries that Colorado had.
It think the Barons cause a lot of people to see a losing team and think it's hopeless, but it's a different synergy between the Avs and Gilbert than it was with the Gunds. In this case, the team is paid to play, and if they're not playing, they'll be replaced with a team that will.
Hockey has never had enough support in Cleveland to warrant an NHL team, and not many cities can pull off 4 major teams. As much as I'd like to see an NHL team here, I couldn't afford season tickets specially good ones. And it's nice to not have to fight as big a crowd getting in, out and around the arena. Just looking at the bright side I guess.

hockey in cleveland had alot of support with the old barons, unfortunately the supporters got old and retired down to florida or arizona, which both now have nhl teams, they tried bringing the nhl to cleveland with the nhl barons but they played @ richfield coliseum @ didnt do so well from the beginning. now if we can get behind this team like is happening now and put together some great seasons who knows what will happen, its a new & young crowd and you have to get them hooked so they will keep coming back for more.
yes, I also don't like the fact we play in a major league venue. I wish we could play at CSU. The Youngstown games are great in a smaller arena, with the smaller crowds.
CSU doesn't have the ability to make ice. The Q is just fine for hockey. Now if they can keep the people coming, like they are now, it wont be an issue.
One major advantage to hockey (as to other sports like football) is the short off season. We still have the stanley cup play-offs and next season will be hear before you know it.
And I love the Q for AHL games. I have been to smaller arenas for other levels of hockey, and I will gladly take the larger (well maintained and comfortable) venue.

Not to speak for SportsCookie but I think he means for the fans. If you watch the Stanley Cup (and Calder if you can get it) playoffs then it's not long before the next regular season begins. Me, I like the summer so I guess I have more patience until next season.

If anyone needs a hockey fix, my son will be playing ALL summer! So stop out at Winterhurst or Barons Arena and take in a game! He will be between the pipes honing his craft!
Big K, Give me a PM with a schedule. I went to a booster event down at the Vacuum and really enjoyed watching the kids play.
