I wish there was an effective way to start a national petition to make anyone performing the song live in public to sign a contract agreeing to recognize that the song is not a soul ballad, and that they would sing it and be done. the song is one and a half octaves, but not all at once in one measure. there's no yodeling in the american national anthem. ever since whitney houston went nuts with it at the super bowl, we have been subjected to such renditions that make me want to arrive late to any athletic contests.
if the warbling women singing this song can't simply sing it, then terrorists win. the song's plenty long enough without a fourteen second version of the word "Free". i can't believe i'm saying it, but i almost prefer "O, Canada" anymore. At the last Monster's home game, we had a sweet young girl singing canada's song of solidarity in her nasally, innocent voice, followed by a typical contemporary american anthem, complete with a kenny g-like "woo-hooerughoooaaahawaaaa" here and there.
please make it stop.

the star spangled banner doesnt do anything for me anymore, it used to send chills down my spine but now nothing. whenever we play a canadian team i get all giddy cuz i get to sing the canadian national anthem, number 1 its not too long plus when the people sing it they sing it the way its supposed to be sung.
What jerks my chain is this. Why do we only do 'O Canada' when we have a Canadian team? WE SHOULD HAVE IT AT EVERY GAME. I am a US Citizen, born and raised, but this is CANADA's Sport. We have primarily CANADIAN PLAYERS. Show some respect here... The AHL was bred out of the Canadian-American Hockey League. We are all AMERICANS (Well, with the exception of the Europeans) Show some respect for our players...

Ned, I agree with you 1000%, I was in the Corps for 22 years and it just rips me when someone "thinks" they can sing the Star Spangled Banner and can't, or others sit and eat or leave their hats on and totally disrespect our flag and country, which happens to be the very best in the world. If I was the NHL commissioner, I would mandate that only God Bless America be sung in the Arenas before the games, in Canada or the U.S.

Thank you for your service. I don't have much more to say on the subject of the song (although I do like O, Canada - it's so mild, like Canada), but anyone who's dedicated 22 years to service is due AT LEAST a thank you.
i am a veteran of this war in iraq, i spent two years of my life living in that **** hole, and spent 11 years of my life serving in the reserves and active duty marines, active duty first. i dont disrespect the flag but i do disrespect the song. i think it is time to get a new national anthem. i honestly know the canadian national anthem more than the u.s's even though we have alot of canadians playing for us the team is still based in an american market and as such only the american national anthem is required, when there is a canadian team its is a show of respect that the canadian national anthem is sung along with the star spangled banner and vice versa in canada. what about the european players should we play there national anthems just because they play as well.
