I knida always wondered that. I assume its just with time and really good posting, but its someting I wondered even before I joined the forums and just read them for fun.

Just an honest question, but mods, if I'm stepping somewhere I'm not allowed, it is unknowingly, and feel free to lock this thread Big Grin

Well you pretty much answered your own question.

Show that you are responsible, very responsible and never act out of line. You must be a respected member of the boards too. Oh yeah, being a grownup helps a lot!

Same here, Cavs4life1, I really don't want all the responsibility, I was ust kinda curious. I just lost my rookie tag yesterday, so I am far from a mod. Just hoping to be seen as a respected funny poster Big Grin

People always ask this question. It's no big secret thing.

We usually keep a working list of nominees in mind for if an opening comes up. Yeah, we talk about you (collectively) behind your back. Nothing ugly, just assets, time, history--things like that. Age is important, that's true. Generally people who contribute to the forum regularly, help maintain order, aren't problem makers, and seem to "get" what's kosher and not message-boarding wise. A sense of humor and 'spidey-senses' are important too. We've got enough to do around here without working with humorless people who can't figure things out for themselves, or recognize trouble brewing. People who participate in trouble, even though they don't start it, or help "work against" what we try to do around here are passed over. We're big on loyalty and expect it from everyone we work with.

Once it looks like an opening is coming up, or we need to add, we revisit the list and decide on a select few. Then we discuss and vote. We make our choice and admin reviews it. If it's a go with him, then he sends a message to them seeing if they're interested. If they agree, they get a new toolbox and some fun things and we tutor them through it. Then they' fly on their own. That's pretty much it.

Ah, if only it was that easy...

Once being chosen as a mod possibility, you'll be required to go through a vicious gauntlet of skills tests. Typing drills, mouse agility drills, useless post readings...the list goes on. Then you face Admin head to head in a triathalon that would test the limits of even the most skilled athletes. Round 1: TetrisDS. But it's played in Japan! Had to save up for airfare, but I was willing to do w/e it took to become a mod! Admin killed me, he's a TetrisDS master! Check out the video of our match here. I'm on the left, Admin's in the middle and Golfer was on the right, but he only came along to witness the results, so he just lost really quick to give us room. I thought I had him a few times, but I couldn't get a long piece when I needed it!!! I was totally はずい!

Round 2: Paper football. Totally had him at this, I'm a seasoned vet. Even have my own "ball" made from actual pigskin. He wasn't ready for that. Crushed him 35-7, so he made me destroy the video. Trust me though, it wasn't pretty.

So it all came down to Round 3: Rock-Paper-Scissors, aka roshambo. NOT the French version. Best of five. He had me down 2-0 with a scissor/rock combo. I thought all was lost. My dream of becoming a mod was slipping away. My coach, LeDan, pulled me to the side and gave me advice that could only come from someone of his stature. "Hit him with the triple scissor!" I was stunned. Who in their right mind would do that? Nobody falls for the same thing three times in a row?! But LeDan enlightened me to a fact I didn't think about: Admin was thinking the same thing! Dan had seen many mod challenges in his day, a few coming down to the last test of roshambo. Admin always fell back on his trusty paper, and was sure that I would succumb to the pressure and go rock one of the last three times, since going rock took the least effort of the three. The tension was thick, sweat poured down my brow, but I did the unthinkable and went scissors three consecutive times for the win! Afterward, Admin says he let me win, they needed another mod and couldn't afford to send another prospect packing. But to this day, whenever I see him, I throw him a "peace" sign. Everyone thinks it's normal, and Admin gets red with anger, but only he and I (and now you) know the true meaning behind it.

So you think you have what it takes? Do you want it bad enough? Start practicing TetrisDS, cuz if it comes down to RPS, you can be sure he won't make the same mistake again!

LAWL!

The funniest thing I saw wasn't even on that video. It was the "Best Tetris Player gets 100 lines in 10 seconds" video, where the guy does nothing but lose really fast. Then, one of the comments reads "How the h*** did you manage to beat out 150,000,000 other sperm?"... LMAO!!!
